Hi! I’m Chelsey. I was born in South Africa, and moved to the Central Coast of NSW in 2003. I am an aspiring software engineer, which is something that initially interested me in my early teenage days. I would use the dial-up connected, family computer into the early hours of the morning, teaching myself HTML programming in order to customise my MySpace profile themes.

This interest was eventually forgotten as I moved through school, graduated, and landed a job in administration. From there, I progressed through a handful of jobs, learning skills in business support, accounting, and finance. Through these jobs, I connected with many small business owners, and found myself drawn to how tech can be used to organise and streamline their business operations. I quickly learned that I had a knack for leveraging new tech, moulding it to suit individual requirements.

After working in that line of work for nearly 10 years, the global pandemic hit, which forced many of us to have a moment of self-reflection. While I was grateful for the skills I had learned, I knew I was unhappy in my job. I am convinced accounting and taxation is one of the least fulfulling careers (no one is genuinely appreciative when you give them a tax bill!).

One day, a memory of the MySpace days hit me, and I remembered the excitement I used to experience creating something visual out of code. This led me to commence of a Bachelor of Software Engineering. This is an exciting new phase of my life, where I am looking forward to becoming a skilled engineer, while drawing on my previous experience to work on projects giving small businesses and teams the tools to thrive.

I would love to create a Software as a Service (SaaS) cloud-based application of my own one day, but for now, I am pursuing work in a high-level, well-established company to gain the highest quality industry experience. My preferance is to work as a back-end engineer, however with a goal to create a SaaS, I would love some exposure to full stack development as well.

Professional aspirations aside, I enjoy spending time with my partner, watching psychological thrillers or listening to white collar crime podcasts. I am an avid barware collector, alternative rock listener, forceful cat snuggler, with a dream to one day live in an industrial warehouse conversion with a loft.
